Wrong Turn (2021) is a loose reboot/remake of the semi-popular series from the aughts. The similarities exist only at the very beginning, for the initial setup, and soon turns into something entirely different. Swap cannibals for a centuries old secret society; but keep the violence, torture, and killing. This film was a lot of fun, and kept me surprised with the twists and turns it kept taking. The lead performance by Charlotte Vega was better than I expected, and the use of practical effects only adds to it. While this film didn’t “wow” me, I also don’t have any gripes with it. Wrong Turn is a pleasant surprise and a good way to kick off the year in horror.
