Junji Ito’s ‘Tomie’ to Be Adapted by Bite-Sized Streaming Service, Quibi

Tomie is my personal favorite of master of horror Junji Ito’s manga series and now it’s going to be a horror series on Quibi directed by Alexandre Aja. Adapted by David Leslie Johnson-McGoldrick (Orphan, The Conjuring 2 & 3, and the upcoming A Nightmare on Elm Street reboot), Tomie is the story of a beautiful high school girl who goes missing and pieces of her body are discovered scattered around a small town. But what starts out as a murder mystery turns into something even more horrific.

I’m excited to see what modern technology and Aja’s vision will bring considering the original films ranged from 1999 to 2005. I am concerned it’s going to be aimed at teenagers and not delve into the earthshattering cosmic horrors later in the manga. However, I will be watching and at the very least, it will expose more people to Ito’s amazing work.

Are you looking forward to this adaptation?
