This isn’t a great film by any means, but what it excels best at is being a fun movie. Straddling the line between self aware meta commentary film like Scream, and an over-the-top ridiculous parody like Scary Movie, the Blackening, is a nice, middle of the road satire. Is it cheesy? At times. But it’s intentional & self aware. Is it funny? Absolutely! I had genuine laugh out loud moments many times. Is it a clever mystery? No. Not really. But it doesn’t try to be one. The whodunnit aspect is more of a formula it’s making fun of than actually trying to keep the audience in suspense. I loved the actors, loved the characters, and most importantly, had fun.
