Censor is a throwback, dealing with a very specific time & place within horror history. The censorship, and near mass hysteria with what are known as, “Video Nasties”. “Extreme” horror films in the UK distributed on VHS in the 80’s. This follows a censor named Enid, whose job it is to view, rate, and cut out scenes from movies. Gorgeously shot on film, with wonderful set pieces that make it feel very lived-in the 80’s without throwing in obvious cliches to date it. Everything about the experience was great. Mostly tense, psychological horror, it also ends on quite a brutal note. Short, sweet, to the point. A horror movie about horror, without being too meta.
