There is something to be said about the way Guillermo del Toro lets his audience see his monsters face to face. Whereas many films may be coy, leveraging off of darkness and the viewer’s own imagination, del Toro is not afraid to show you exactly what you should be scared of. The creature design, paired with a genius sound design truly had me squirming in my seat.

In addition to the film’s well researched mythology, supported by members of Native communities, Cooper’s talent for storytelling brought about an elegant seriousness to a monster horror flick. Great performances were had by all but none more than Jeremy T. Thomas who shined as the brave and quiet Lucas. I wish I had seen more from Graham Greene’s character and that the story was a bit tighter but overall Antlers is not one to be missed.
