Brothers Get in Over Their Heads in ‘Don’t Tell a Soul’

Have you ever thought to yourself, “Gee, I would really love to see a cat-and-mouse thriller featuring Rainn Wilson stuck at the bottom of a well in the woods”? Because…I’ve got some great news for you!

While stealing money to help their sick mother (Mena Suvari), teen brothers Matt and Joey (Fionn Whitehead and Jack Dylan Grazer) are surprised by Hamby (Primetime Emmy® Award nominee Rainn Wilson), a security officer who gives chase and is then trapped in a well. Over the next few days, Joey and Hamby forge an uneasy relationship. Hamby tells Joey he’ll keep quiet if Joey sets him free. But Hamby holds another secret, one that will threaten Joey and his family, in this twist-filled, cat-and-mouse thriller.

Don’t Tell A Soul is an upcoming thriller film, starring Rainn Wilson (The Office), Jack Dylan Grazer (IT 1 & 2, Shazam!), Fionn Whitehead (Dunkirk), and Mena Suvari (American Pie, Loser, Stuck) and is the directorial debut of author and musician, Alex McAulay. From the onset, we see a couple of teenage brothers who are likely up to no good. Scoping out what appears to be an abandoned remote building, they plan to take some money they’ve found stored inside. What they weren’t expecting, is to run into a security officer (Rainn Wilson), who then follows them in a foot chase until he falls down a covered well in the middle of the woods.

The movie looks small scale (not small budget), in the sense that we really only see 3 people in the entire trailer. You have an older/younger brother sibling dynamic, in which the older one (Fionn Whitehead) seems to bully and antagonize his younger, more reserved brother (Jack Dylan Grazer). We get little glimpses into each of their personalities as they respond to the misfortune Rainn Wilson finds himself at. One flat out acts like a sociopath, the other has empathy. However, that empathy seems like it might lead to something dangerous and harmful down the line. Don’t Tell A Soul looks like a straightforward cat-and-mouse type thriller, but won’t lack on on the suspense and emotion.

Originally planned to premiere at Tribeca Film Festival, which was unfortunately cancelled due to COVID-19 safety concerns, Don’t Tell A Soul will now open on January 15th, in theaters and VOD.
