Grieving siblings spend the holidays with a mysterious and possibly unhinged woman. Trapped together in an isolated lodge during a relentless snowstorm, the trio experiences increasingly unsettling events while the audience struggles to decipher what is real in this dreamlike terror-scape. Horror lovers will note similar beats to both Hereditary and The Shining. Acting and atmosphere are near perfect, drawing the audience into a claustrophobic, slow burn nightmare. While not exactly original the film is very well executed beautiful shots of both the barren landscape and the labyrinthine lodge nod to past work. If you loved Goodnight Mommy, expect a more mainstream approach to horror with familiar themes. For its effort, I would say give it a shot but don’t expect a masterpiece.
