Scare Package is an insanely fun horror comedy anthology that easily moves between segments and the frame story. The stories are over the top, self aware, and nostalgic. Each one takes a familiar subgenre and turns it around or mashes it up with another. They bring something unexpected and use gooey practical effects. These amalgams act as loving parodies that both poke fun of and admire 80’s horror. “The Night He Came Back Again! Part IV: The Final Kill” is my favorite as the most ridiculous version of a slasher. It combines every trope in a compact story and takes place on the 4th of July. The ending circles back to the beginning with an unexpected callback, making me want to start it again. This film stands apart from typical anthologies with clever writing, fresh ideas, and love for horror.

Scare Package screened as part of the Chattanooga Film Festival 2020.
