Relic starts off about a missing elerly woman (Edna), with her daughter (Kay) and granddaughter (Sam) trying to figure out what happened to her. Edna soon shows up (not a spoiler), mysteriously and bruised, which raises more questions than before. A slow burn for sure, the first half hour of this movie was a bit of a slog to get through; however, the final act totally redeems itself. Performances are all top-notch, the atmosphere is dark and palpable, and the entire movie fills you with dread and foreboding. Throw in some wild visuals, trippy dream sequences, confusing, maze-like set design, and great sound work…and this is a really solid, complete package.

Relic will be available July 10th on VOD via IFC Midnight.
