A 666-Character Review of ‘In Fabric’

Recently divorced Sheila was just looking for a nice dress to wear on a date at a new shop but found way more than she expected at a new department store Dentley and Soper’s. In Fabric centers around a sentient, evil dress that does everything from kill people and appliances to regenerating itself and changing its size. It takes place in the 70’s and emulates giallo film style with bright colors, over the top sinister characters, and truly bizarre events. The story veers off the expected course and shows that the main characters are really the dress, the owner of the store, and his automaton-like saleswomen. There’s a surprising amount of humor throughout the film along with an absurdist flare. In Fabric can be confusing, creepy, laugh-out-loud funny, and uncomfortable, but never boring.
