A 666-Character Review of ‘Deadstream’

A bumbling scary cat experiencing the fallout of a scandalous prank-gone-wrong, finds himself in over his head. Locked inside a crumbling murder house rumored to be haunted by its former residents, this overnight live-stream to save his career…just may cost him his life. For folks already intolerant of vlogger vibes or the monitor horror subgenre in general, you may be tempted to write this off…however. The somehow charming cringe of our lead, Shawn, quickly left me not necessarily rooting for him, but invested in his fate. Found footage bases were covered early on, and without feeling like an exposition overload. Throughout the night as the spooks escalated (and they really do, in an almost Evil Deadesque way), the real-time commenting interface made for welcome comic relief.

Deadstream premiered as part of the SXSW Film Festival 2022
