With a hurricane looming, a group of wealthy twentysomethings gather at a remote family mansion to party till the storm passes. Things get wildly out of hand when a social deduction game goes off the rails, resulting in death, finger-pointing, & brutal honesty. Sure, the tagline, “This is Not a Safe Space”, could stir some reluctance for fans of modern elevated horror films, but dwell too much on that. The aggressive characterizations of Gen Z clichés are plentiful, however the self aware and katana sharp execution guarantees an enjoyably satirical experience for everyone. It takes a lot to breathe new life into an ensemble, “whodunit” genre, but Halina Reijn has a skilled hand, and strong lungs. Perfect slasher pacing. Incredibly cast. This could very well be the slasher of the summer.

Bodies Bodies Bodies premiered as part of the SXSW Film Festival 2022.

POS
Equally tense and hilarious
Flawed characters that annoyed me in the right way
Use of cell phone flashlight & screen lighting is sick
For some reason still made me want to have a Hurricane party...
NEG
Maybe a moment of drag during the transition into the third act
A24 is consistently too good
Embarrassingly I can't think of anything significant
9.1
