Who doesn’t like a good 90’s gross-out Ozploitation body horror film…am I right?! 1993’s Body Melt weaves several tales of an experimental health drug and the gooey side effects it has for the unknowing test subjects of a quaint suburban cul-de-sac. Fret not, the residents aren’t particularly sympathetic, so it’s ok to take joy in their gory demises. Director Philip Brophy’s faux-anthology story takes a satirical stab at the consumerization of personal health, among other themes, that feels scatterbrained for the first half of the film but finds a pace and a unity in its tone, melding Cronenberg with splatstick of early Peter Jackson. This is a weird one…I’m not going to lie, but if you enjoy the aforementioned directors, you will love this over the top film that has brains to spare.

POS
A familiar feel for fans of Peter Jackson’s 'Dead Alive'
Enough oozey goodness to share with others (a great party film)
The local coroner steals the show…
NEG
It feels very 90’s...or wait..is that a pro?
The soundtrack, but it fits the film
A confusing first half, the second half is where it really amps up!
8.9
