Frank Henenlotter’s 1982 grindhouse classic, Basket Case, is a time capsule of the sleazy and grimy world that was New York City of the 80’s. Duane and his basket arrive in the Big Apple with a simple mission…revenge. In the basket is Belial, Duane’s former conjoined twin, who was brutally separated and left for dead. Deformed, super-strong, and bloodthirsty, Belial manipulates his brother to help murder the nefarious doctors from their past. It had a meager $35k budget, some campy acting, and passable practical effects, but this Shakespearean tragedy of a creature-feature delights with it’s bizarre, funny, grungy, bloody and tragic creativity. A must-see!

POS
1980's New York at it's visual best...dark, dirty, and grimy
Practical effects only a mother could love
Belial...You kinda want to hang out with him and eat some burgers
NEG
The acting can be a little campy at times
Practical effects don't exactly hold up to today's standards
Younger audiences who aren't accustomed to 80's horror might get drawn out of the film
8.7
