A 666-Character Review of ‘Momo: The Missouri Monster’

No stranger to the reenactment, Small Town Monsters has taken things to another level with Momo: the Missouri Monster. Set in the world of “Blackburn’s Cryptid Casefiles” (hosted by cryptozoologist Lyle Blackburn), we’re given the same elevated documentary technique seen in previous features, but this time more thoroughly wrapped in interpretation. The timber of Lyle’s narration, with a notably emotive score, and a loving nod towards the grindhouse, gives us a captivating new vehicle for documentary storytelling. While I think the scripted moments are successful, what shines is still the assembly of heartfelt interviews with local witnesses. This isn’t just a story of a monster, but of a town and its residents. Seth’s affection for the subject material is on full display in Momo.
