You Can’t Hide From ‘Faults’

Well folks, today’s the day. Faults, the directorial debut of Riley Stearns, is available on VOD. Mary Elizabeth Winstead (Death Proof, Black Christmas), & Leland Orser (The Guest, The Bone Collector, & my personal favorite, “Crazed Man in Massage Parlor” in Se7en), star in this oddly dark, deprogramming thriller.

“Claire is under the grip of a mysterious new cult called Faults. Desperate to be reunited with their daughter, Claire’s parents recruit one of the world’s foremost experts on mind control, Ansel Roth.” -Screen Media

Winstead’s unsettling blankness, coupled with Orser’s desperate illusion of self-importance (& bleak financial situation) builds up a level of pressurized euphoria for the audience. The shame I feel from skipping this at SXSW 2014 is overwhelming. This comes from the same production team as You’re Next & The Guest. From what I can tell, Keith Calder and Chris Harding truly appreciate & embrace the spirit of throwback genre films. Even more importantly, they know how to make a fun film. I can’t wait to see what they do next, especially Keith’s current project, Dude Bro Party Massacre III.
