‘X’ Promises One Goddamn Fucked Up Horror Picture

In 1979, a group of young filmmakers set out to make an adult film in rural Texas, but when their reclusive, elderly hosts catch them in the act, the cast find themselves fighting for their lives.

And as my #1 movie of 2022…wait. Wrong write up.

X. Ti West. A24. Jenna Ortega. Mia Goth. Why am I still typing? Is that not enough to gain your interest???

This trailer starts off with the groovy bassline of Foghat’s 1972 hit “I Just Want To Make Love To You”, a very apt song for the content of this movie. What do we get next? Vintage throwback retro horror ala House of the Devil. That’s right, Ti West is BACK. Doing what he did best with arguably one of the best horror movies of the 21st century. A 70’s period piece of a small porn crew looking for a place to rent out to live/film their…uh…movies. Unfortunately for them, there is a sickly old woman in the main house across the field. Someone who, not unlike The Visit, is “active” at night. Things clearly do not work out for the best, and we are sure to get a super violent, bloody climax at the end.

The trailer itself is full of symbolism and double meanings. “The story just can’t change mid-way through” seems like a bit of an easter egg, letting us viewers know there might be a twist in the movie that we don’t get to see in the trailer.

Alongside the two actors already mentioned, we get Brittany Snow, Kid Cudi, and Martin Henderson to round ot the cast. Eliot Rockett helms the camera, as he did for House of the Devil and The Innkeepers. Now listen. I’m not trying to claim this is going to be the best movie ever or anything (except it totally will be), but safe to say, I’m more than excited. And honestly, all of you should be too.

If you feel comfortable going to theaters in these strange times, go do it March 18th.
If not, check it out as soon as you (legally) can online.
