Buckle Up for Ridescare Thriller ‘Spree’ (SFW)

Who can resist the intoxication of social media attention? Not Kurt, a 23-year old rideshare driver for Spree, you may know him as @Kurtsworld96. Kurt maps out a shortcut to infamy with a plan to livestream a rampage by setting up cameras in his car. When his lethal scheme garners more fame than he could’ve bargained for, he desperately looks for a way to overcome the plan’s flaws. A wrench is thrown into his plans, when he picks up a stand-up comedian, Jessie, who becomes the only hope of putting a stop to his madness.

While my heart will always belong to old-school horror, I just can’t help but get excited for these modern slasher premises – because let’s face it, evil didn’t die during Y2k. I like the way technology is incorporated into this story; it’s central, but isn’t hamfisted. The film itself doesn’t take itself too seriously and the trailer already gives away a comical undertone, but you won’t miss Joe Keery’s absolutely chilling portrayal of a young serial killer. I’m also very excited about this cast, with Sasheer Zamata being casted opposite of Joe, I don’t even know who I want to win. Either way, I’m ready for this wild ride.

Spree will be available in theaters, and on VOD August 14th, 2020.
