The Civil Dead is not a horror film, even though it involves a man being relentlessly haunted by a ghost. Our main character is a socially awkward, dry personality that has a bad haircut, skateboards, and is into photography (aka, me). The way in which everyone talks and interacts with one another is just like my friend group. The film is absurdly comedic, and ventures slightly into quirky territory…without ever becoming too much. The movie is a pure vibe movie; and you’re either going to vibe with it, or be turned away from it. Me? Instantly with it. . It’s strangely heartwarming and touching, as well as dark and sad. A great time either way you view it.

The Civil Dead was screened as part of Slamdance 2022.
