Set in 1970’s Argentina, The Attachment Diaries (Original title: El Apego) is a film about two women. A doctor, and a pregnant woman all alone. But what starts off as an inquiry about terminating the pregnancy quickly devolves into something that can best be described as a psychosexual horror show.

This movie is a slow, meandering thriller that holds as much relevance in modern day as the time in which it’s set. It’s a tad slow in the development, but once the film lands at its destination, you’ll be glad you stuck with it. Around the three-quarters point of the film, we get amazingly beautiful 1970’s color work. If this wasn’t shot on film, it’s the best imitation I’ve ever seen. However, up until that point, we had various shades of black & white. From ultra high contrast to flat and gray. Great performances, gorgeous imagery, and a few shocking moments that left my audience gasping; this film will reward those who actively engage with it.
