When a family roughing it in the remote wilderness finds their way of life threatened by a lone wolf, patriarch Joseph sets off on a mission to kill the creature, leaving his wife and daughter to deal with the arrival of a mysterious stranger. Boy howdy this flick did not go where I expected it to, which is great, because I’m so pleased with where it did go. Having a name like Devon Sawa attached to your film tends to imply he’s going to steal the spotlight, but in this case, Camille Sullivan ran away with the lead, delivering an absolutely killer performance. With an ending packed with practical effects to die for (I’m so sorry about the puns), this watch was such a treat. If you’re down for a relentlessly tense thriller with a healthy heaping of well-earned gore, look no further than Hunter Hunter.

Hunter Hunter will be available in theaters and On Demand December 18th, 2020.
Look forward to hearing our chat with Shawn Linden on December 16th.

POS
Gruesome practicals
Strong performances from our main cast
Felt fresh
NEG
Lots of animal death
A couple of abandoned plot points, led to some unresolved questions
It’s mad dark (but this could just as easily be a pro, depending on what you’re looking for)
7.5
