A 666-Character Review Of ‘Candyman’

Helen is studying urban legends for her thesis when she discovers an impoverished neighborhood attributing their daily woes to Candyman, a murderous spirit with a hook for a hand that turns out to be all too real. This movie was my first introduction to horror when I was around 6. It terrified me, but I couldn’t stop thinking about it. As an adult, the film is even better. I love how the film is almost two in one. The first half is more of a thriller as Helen puts herself in danger to research Candyman. She is in control and confident that she will come out safe with a killer thesis. The latter half has more in common with slashers with the liberal use of blood. Helen is unsure of reality, treated as a psycho or a criminal, and completely out of control. Candyman is a well-crafted film worthy of your time.
