A 666-Character Review Of ‘The Veil’

Twenty-five years after the fact, the sole survivor of a cult suicide revisits the camp to investigate what happened, and why she was left alive. Two stories unfold simultaneously with flashbacks telling the story of the Heaven’s Veil cult as a documentary team explores the old grounds. The flashbacks are a bit too cinematic to be sold as the found-footage they claim to be, but it’s where the movie shines as Thomas Jane plays a fantastic and charismatic cult leader. The tone and pacing are good throughout, and the third act reveals some enjoyable twists. Admittedly, there were a few spots that had me asking “but why?” and I could’ve used more of an explanation of the cult itself—where do their beliefs come from, in particular. But in spite of these flaws I found The Veil to be an enjoyable ride.
