High school loner Bird Fitcher has no idea what dark secrets are tied to the mysterious Polaroid vintage camera she stumbles upon, but it doesn’t take long to discover that those who have their picture taken meet a tragic end.

Even though I’m fairly certain I’ve watched at least two other films this year alone with an incredibly similar concept, a couple of moments from this trailer give me hope that this movie has the potential to be something beyond a cheap blockbuster full of jumpscares and teen shenanigans. Ghostly photographs, spooky specters, and some voodoo doll fire action promise, at the least, an exciting movie-going experience. Despite the largely unoriginal premise, Polaroid could warrant a watch if you’re looking for a lighthearted teen scream this holiday season.

Polaroid is in theaters December 1st, 2017.
