A 666-Character Review Of ‘The Boy (2016)’

It took me about 10 minutes to figure out something wasn’t right about this film. Actually, it’s more like something wasn’t wrong. As a PG-13 rated, supernatural doll film, with a jumpy trailer and cliche marketing, the odds were stacked against it, but the Boy is a weird ride in the a surprising and satisfying way. Voyeuristic cinematography had me continuously creeped. Acting/dialogue was definitely above par. One could argue that a major plot turn was inspired by a significantly bizarre film from a couple years ago, but I appreciate the application to theatrical horror. I can’t believe I’m saying this…but let’s end this spooky doll tread on a high note?
