A 666-Character Review Of ‘Penny Dreadful: Perpetual Night / The Blessed Dark Part 1’

Vanessa’s prophecy seems to be coming true. The air is smoky and hard to breathe. Vampires and creatures of the night roam free, eating is they want. The dark underworld is no longer willing to stay hidden. Catriona saves Malcolm and Ethan. I wish she was in more of the season instead of being tacked on at the end because the actress and character are awesome. Lily is captured by Jekyll and Victor thanks to Dorian. She plies and pleads for release. The highlight of the episode is her impassioned monologue about her wretched life as a prostitute. It was so sad and well delivered. The other sad highlight was Justine after Dorian broke up their army of women. She couldn’t see life as it was before after having such freedom. It ended with an exciting battle, but Vanessa didn’t show and it all felt short.
