A 666-Character Review Of ‘Outcast: A Darkness Surrounds Him’

The show starts with a disturbing scene as a possessed boy pounds his head against a wall until bleeding and eats his own finger. It sets the tone of the show and shows a taste of how far it can go. Enter Kyle Barnes, who has had traumatic experiences with possessed people his whole life. Everyone in town shuns him except his sister and the reverend, who asks for Kyle’s help in his possession ritual. This ritual is particularly brutal and the demon has chilling, specific details of Kyle’s childhood. The effects are amazing and the visuals are creepy. Afterwards, Kyle agrees to work with the reverend to free others from this possession. I’m happy the show stays away from a lot of troubling tropes of possession stories and allows its victims to be anyone. I’m eager to see more of this chilling world.
