A 666-Character Review of ‘June’

One of my favorite truths about current genre filmmaking is that the best talents herald from an incredibly eclectic range of places. In the case of L. Gustavo Cooper, director of June, that place is professional skateboarding. As his second feature film, the story centers around a young girl who suffers immense hardship in foster homes after being rescued from an evil cult as a baby. Actress Kennedy Brice (The Walking Dead) skillfully conveys the loneliness and pain of young June as she struggles between the good and evil forces pulling upon her. A story about potentially evil children is nothing new, but the way June unfolds is something quite unique and worth watching. Strong acting and a solid story make it easy to forgive a few less-than-fabulous special effects. Check this one out.
