A 666-Character Review of ‘Cam’

Alice works as a cam girl and finally breaks into the top 50 of the site only to be sabotaged by a rival. The next day, she’s locked out of her account, but someone who looks just like her is doing her job. Cam is a thriller that deals with many of the negatives of being a cam girl, such as being forced to do more extreme things to be successful, not being viewed as a person by viewers, being stalked, and being ridiculed and victim blamed by the general public. The chilling moments have more to do with the way performers are treated rather than anything supernatural. The commentary is a little scattered, but it touches on being out of control of your image and the necessary separation of real life and the job. The mystery is never really solved, but I enjoyed the look into an industry many don’t know about.

Cam was screened as party of the Fantasia International Film Festival ’18
