A 666-Character Review of ‘Boiled Angels: The Trial of Mike Diana’

Having never heard of Mike Diana or his Boiled Angels magazine before, I was instantly hooked from the opening sequence. We start off with archival news footage, discussing the charges and impending trial of our then young, title character. In the late 80’s and early 90’s, artist Mike Diana created highly offensive comic magazines. The film is told with multiple interviews, archival footage, and narrated readings of some of the comics he published. This documentary is one of the most fascinating stories I’ve seen in a while. Regardless of your personal opinions of his art, this will sink its teeth into you, and have you glued to the screen the whole runtime.
