A 666-Character Review of ‘The Poughkeepsie Tapes’

A rough, but satisfying entrance into the genre by the Dowdle Brothers (Quarantine, As Above/So Below). This film turns your stomach without putting too much in front of you. That being said, there is plenty of on screen unsettling, and these moments are dense in dread. Authentically chilling. This raw nature adds a level of genuineness, and charm that I miss greatly in current, slick first person film. While this isn’t perfect, I think it’s a necessary watch. Especially for those into found footage. P.S. Good luck finding this as its theatrical release was scrapped, DVD/Blu-Ray release canceled, and when it came back to VOD, was pulled in less than a week.
