A 666-Character Review Of ‘Scream: Pilot’

It’s hard not to be a bitter old man regarding MTV’s reboot of a series that was seminal to my interest in the genre, but I’ll do my best to keep those feelings internalized. This is for a new generation, & it’s apparent. Although the franchise has always been great at integrating modern technology, from the use of caller ID in the 90’s, to online video & social media apps of today, this feels like overkill. Episode one sprinkles the franchises meta-ness evenly throughout, which is surprisingly comforting. The tone becomes clearer when Noah, played by John Karna (Premature) says, “You can’t do a slasher movie as a TV series”. Honestly, signs point to maybe.
