Godforsaken opens on a funeral in a small town. It abruptly closes that funeral with a corpse crawling out from its casket and disappearing from the church. What follows is the found footage remnants of a documentary about the occurrence and its aftermath within the community. While the resurrection is initially met with horror and holy fear, a fervent cult soon forms as the once dead woman offers hope in the form of healing. It’s a simple and strong premise, hindered only by genre and runtime. It operates at a rapid pace, which doesn’t always allow the story to breathe properly. It also falls victim a few times to shaky and poorly lit shots, an infamous hallmark of the genre. All that said, Godforsaken is a chaotic, culty time that will hold your attention as a small town descends into madness.

Excellent coffin crawl.
Fun concept.
Slightly rushed.
Third act is...a bit much.
