The Real Ghosts of Estes Park – Part 1

As I sit in our [haunted] hotel room at the Stanley Hotel, waiting for Byron and Sam to return from the Stanley Film Festival Opening Night screening of Cooties, I can’t stop thinking about the pet cemetery that was dug up on these grounds in the last couple of years. Now, the hotel is rumored to be haunted separately from this disruption of canine and feline corpses (Stephen King had a nightmare when he stayed here that became The Shining), but for some reason, this pet cemetery idea has me utterly terrified. Supposedly, this uprooted graveyard was intended as the final resting place for pets that belonged to families of managers and other hotel employees; names on the graves included Holmes, Elsie, and Stanley Blue I, II, and III. Before the hotel decided to make way for a new wedding pavilion and conference center, the cemetery was supposedly fairly easy to find.  I think we will go hunting for the new location tomorrow…
