Joe Begos’ ‘Bliss’ Teases Its Teeth Ahead of Tribeca

If you follow the indie horror or film festival scene, chances are you’ve already heard of Joe Begos. He’s made a name for himself with his first two films; Almost Human and The Mind’s Eye. The Mind’s Eye is the best Cronenberg movie that Cronenberg didn’t make. His films always feature amazing practical effects, which is something that I’m drawn to.

Bliss, previously titled “Dragged Into Sunlight”, is about a young woman named Dezzy (Dora Madison). Dezzy is a struggling artist, lacking inspiration to create new work. However, from the little we’ve seen, inspiration strikes after a night of partying, drinking, drugs, and…murder. In this short teaser, we’re met with a hypnotic arrangement of color, camera movement, and a pulsating synth track. And did I mention gore? Because this has it in spades. Shot on 16mm and featuring more of his wonderful skill with practical effects and makeup, Bliss just jumped into my most anticipated movie list.

Bliss will have it’s work premiere April 27th at the Tribeca and will continue screening all weekend. Time and locations below.
