A 666-Character Review Of ‘Preacher: Pilot’

Jesse Custer is a horrible preacher with a good heart. His clumsy sermons bore and he goes about things the wrong way, but his goal is to help the people of his home town. I’m intrigued by Jesse’s mysterious past that involved violence and his motivations for coming back to such a lackluster town. His version of help ends up in a bar room brawl that at least temporarily fixes a domestic violence problem. Cassidy crashes onto the scene literally after he kills vampire slayers on a plane. This fight scene with its bloody violence backed by cheerful jazz music truly captures the black humor of the comic. The ending of the episode was also brutal and funny with the introduction of Jesse’s new power. Events happen much differently than in the comic, but I’m happy to see the dark yet fun spirit is intact.
