When Laura’s son contracts a mysterious illness, she has to decide how far she’s willing to go to protect him. All the while, Laura harbors a dark secret from her past which may be the key to keeping her son safe once and for all.

Son is a cult thriller with a twist. I have to admit, I thought the plot undersold the film, which had a strong production value, was well-acted, and juggled multiple themes without dropping the ball. It ultimately won me over by being more reserved than I’d expect of most horror. The story surprised me without trying too hard, the jumpscares were scary, but conservative and the practical effects were tasteful. Overall, I found Son to be a unique story. At times, Son could feel busy but for a little suspense of disbelief, you’ll have yourself a thrilling and fun 98 minutes.

Son is available now on Blu-ray and DVD.
