Weekly Watch: ‘Behind the Mask: The Rise of Leslie Vernon’ (2006)

Weekly Watch is a special series for the month of October. Each Monday we’re sharing a movie, and Frightday staffers will host a live review (shared on our Facebook group) the following Friday.

The next great psycho horror slasher has given a documentary crew exclusive access to his life as he plans his reign of terror over the sleepy town of Glen Echo.

It’s a dark comedy, an homage, and a slasher all in one. Released in 2006, Behind the Mask is a horror-comedy mockumentary that follows an aspiring slasher as he gets ready for his big debut. It’s a particularly rewarding watch for fans of the slasher subgenre, but should have some appeal for most horror fans.

Behind the Mask is available to rent through most streaming services, but can also be streamed for free through Shudder.
