SXSW Brings First Look at Eddie Alcazar’s ‘Perfect’

A boy in a cold and stark modern house, in a vaguely science fictional world, is seduced by advertisements of perfection to install implantable characteristics directly into his body. The implants heal his dark, twisted visions, but come with a corporeal cost. He persists on applying them, hoping to reach perfection, but ultimately he discovers that purity of mind is not exactly as he’s imagined.

Backed by both Flying Lotus (who also provides the music) and Steven Soderbergh, Perfect is the latest vehicle for writer/director Eddie Alcazar’s creativity. The formulaic appearance of the trailer reads as a dark comic book/superhero blockbuster, which makes Alcazar’s credits as producer on last year’s Kuso a bit confusing. By virtue of being dystopian sci-fi, the film isn’t playing it safe, but will it bring innovation to the screen?

Perfect premiered at SXSW on Sunday, March 11, and will also be screened at the festival on Tuesday, March 13 as well as Thursday, March 15. Future screenings outside of the festival are unknown at this time.
