By now, we all know about the heinous exploits of infamous serial killer Jeffrey Dahmer, but what perhaps hasn’t been thoroughly explored in Dahmer’s narrative is what makes a man into a monster? My Friend Dahmer seems to be, in essence, an origin story. Despite the fact that I have no doubt this will be an interesting portrayal of the events leading up to Dahmer’s gruesome murders, it may also be an exploitation of serious mental illnesses. The trailer alone made me feel sympathetic more than anything else. I hope the subject matter is handled with tact, and that this film is truly more insightful than it is harmful.
