Lynne Ramsay’s ‘You Were Never Really Here’ Looks Vicious

A missing teenage girl. A brutal and tormented enforcer on a rescue mission. Corrupt power and vengeance unleash a storm of violence that may lead to his awakening.

You Were Never Really Here reads like a phenomenal blend of genre films past. This trailer is a two-minute crescendo of blood and brutality that feels fraught with tension throughout. Joaquin Phoenix (Her, The Village), even in this short window, gives a convincing, detached performance as a hired hand with a proclivity for violence.

Phoenix stars alongside newcomer Ekaterina Samsonov (Anesthesia, Wonderstruck) in this crime thriller from Amazon Studios. Writer/director Lynne Ramsay (We Need to Talk About Kevin, Ratcatcher) adapted the film from the Jonathan Ames short story of the same name.

You Were Never Really Here will be available April 6th, 2018.
