Lose Your Mind With This Week’s Shudder Selections

Frightday’s favorite horror-streaming service has just released some new gems worthy of a psychological breakdown.

Kick off the week with Peter Strickland’s homage to ‘70s Italian horror, Berberian Sound Studio.

lym-1

A Master Foley artist working on an Dario Argento-style giallo is brought to Italy to work on a gruesome gore flick. As he starts going to further extremes to make the disturbing sound effects for the film, the line between what’s real and what’s fiction starts to break down.

Next up is Errors of the Human Body.

lym-2

Obsessively struggling to develop a cure for a rare genetic ailment which caused the death of his infant son, Geneticist Geoff Burton is forced to relocate to an isolated research facility in Dresden, Germany. Completely consumed by his research, Burton is on the brink of discovery, but soon realizes that his own work may bear more consequences than he previously thought.

After two such intense psychological thrillers, cool down with Grabbers.

lym-3

A comic sci-fi flick where the inhabitants of a small island discover they must get drunk in order to survive an invasion of bloodsucking aliens.

Finally, to end the week on a high note, check out a personal favorite of mine, They Look Like People.

lym-4

In Perry Blackshear’s charming yet chilling tale, two old friends’ test their trust in one another when one of them starts losing his grip on reality. While staying at his friend Chris’s apartment, Wyatt starts receiving eerie phone calls about monstrous beings taking over human bodies in preparation for world domination. Though Wyatt doesn’t know what to believe, he starts amassing weapons while Chris is at work. Is he schizophrenic? Or are the monsters real?
