Gothic Horror Abounds in ‘The Lodgers’ Trailer

A gothic ghost story about orphaned twins Edward and Rachel who share a crumbling manor in 1920s rural Ireland – but they are not alone. They share the house with unseen entities who control them with three absolute rules. As separate fates draw them apart, the twins must face the terrible truth about their family’s ghostly tormentors.

The Lodgers is the sophomore effort of director Brian O’Malley (Let Us Prey), and the first film of writer David Turpin. The cast centers on Charlotte Vega (Another Me) and Bill Milner (Son of Rambow, X-Men: First Class).

Everything about this trailer is perfectly bleak and eldritch. It’s a promising display of gothic horror, from the unsettling twins to the dilapidated house to the mistrusting villagers. And it can only have helped that the primary set for the film was, in fact, an allegedly haunted Irish mansion.

The Lodgers premiered at the Toronto International Film Festival on September 8th, but does not have a wide-release date as of this post.
