A 666-Word Review of ‘The Santa Clarita Diet’

I’m sure by this point, everyone with any kind of social media account has gotten countless notifications about a new Netflix original show called The Santa Clarita Diet. Personally, I scrolled past quite a few Twitter ads thinking Drew Barrymore was just hocking another celebrity endorsed  fad diet. Until, that …

A year after Will’s return, everything seems back to normal… but a darkness lurks just beneath the surface, threatening all of Hawkins. The king of 1980s kids-on-bikes-sci-fi is coming back in just 9 months. Netflix’s showed less than 30 seconds of footage in their Super Bowl ad, but that’s all …

A 666-Character Review of ‘The Rocky Horror Picture Show: Let’s Do the Time Warp Again’

It’s just a jump to the left. Literally. Fox’s remake of the campy cult classic is definitely The Rocky Horror Picture Show, but it’s a bit off. Things open promisingly with a nod to the stage production as Ivy Levan belts out “Science Fiction/Double Feature” as the usherette, but what follows …

13 Of the Best ‘Treehouse of Horror’ Segments

A tradition nearly as old as The Simpsons itself, Treehouse of Horror has been an annual event for over twenty-five years. It’s a bit of a love letter to the Halloween scene, chock full of spoofs, spooks, and homage. Each episode consists of 3 stories, typically woven into one main wraparound story. Below is …

A 666-Character Review Of ‘Scream: When A Stranger Calls’

The killer’s identity was already widely suspected, and the reveal was so sudden it barely even registered, but none of that stopped Scream’s season two finale from being a fantastic ride. The pacing was remarkably quick, to the point that the episode actually felt short. Everything moves with a unique fluidity, …

A 666-Character Review of ‘Scream: Heavenly Creatures’

This is arguably one of the weakest episodes of season two, but it’s no fault of the episode. Simply put, it felt like the first half of a two-parter, just without the second part. Nearly every character shows up at some point and there’s enough clues for Noah to start …

A 666-Character Review of ‘Scream: The Vanishing’

The endgame has officially begun as the killer switches from close calls and side-character-kills to putting the remaining Sixers in some real danger. And with last episode’s “next time on Scream” leaving everyone wondering if they’d really just seen the death of a main character, it’s been a week of worry …

A 666-Character Review of ‘Scream: The Orphanage’

The Orphanage is certainly an evidence heavy episode. It takes a two-pronged approach, focusing on Audrey and Emma separately, and collides their stories at the end. From start to finish the episode is jam packed with plenty of clues, and likely a few false ones—no doubt a treat for the conspiracy-minded …

A 666-Character Review Of ‘Scream: Village of the Damned’

When the town of Lakewood decides the annual carnival and pageant are traditions they can’t let die, the stage is set for a funhouse themed horror show. Sadly, the full potential of the setting is never realized, as the carnival creates a touch of atmosphere, but never really plays into …

A 666-Character Review Of ‘Scream: Let The Right One In’

Let the Right One In works to buck the trend of pressing tension and constant mystery building that has so defined the most recent episodes of this season. However, the episode never manages to fully escape it, and somehow that failure works in its favor. Rather than give viewers a levity …

A 666-Character Review Of ‘Outcast: From the Shadows It Watches’

A 666-Character Review Of ‘Outcast: A Wrath Unseen’

It’s tough to imagine how Dawn of the Dead could have been a better episode. The story in Happy Birthday to Me revolves around a surprise party for Kieran and a bottle of bad tequila. Scream has always had to balance being both PG-13 horror and MTV-style teen drama, and for the most part it has managed.
