Another 666-Character Review of ‘The Veil’

I’m not sure why, but I dodged The Veil on my Netflix suggestions list for a few weeks before I finally gave in. With Tom Jane, American Horror Story’s Lily Rabe, and a cool premise, I shouldn’t have been so slow to join the party. Rabe plays the sole survivor of a mass cult suicide twenty-five years earlier, convinced by Jessica Alba and her documentary film crew to return to the scene of the event to investigate new evidence. The story unfolds nicely, as we learn Alba, too, has a connection to the tragic event and that there might have been more going on years ago than merely a drink-the-kool-aid-gang.  Jane is amazingly impressive in flashbacks as the cult’s leader, Jim Jacobs. Save a couple brief CGI disappointments, this movie far exceeded my expectations – unexpectedly unique and creepy.
