A 666-Character Review of ‘Verotika’

Release Date
June 13, 2019
WRITTEN & DIRECTED BY
Glenn Danzig

Let’s get straight to it: Verotika is not a cinematic masterpiece. The editing is clunky, the sound design is inconsistent, the cast are not particularly great (or even good) actors. But this movie is fun. The words “Glenn Danzig’s directorial debut” may conjure up a lot of images (most which are accurate) but humor is also a key piece to this film. Never taking itself too seriously, all of its shortcomings feel like an homage to cheesy B-movies. The anthology format lends itself well here, as character development and garnering empathy from the audience doesn’t seem to be a focus. After one kitschy, campy short, it’s onto the next goofy, spoofy, bloody one.

Verotika premiered at Cinepocalypse 2019.
