A 666-Character Review Of ‘They’re Watching’

By premise alone They’re Watching is fairly unique, and sounds like it should be a lot of fun: a found-footage horror-comedy based on home-buying reality TV. However, the promised sendup only lasts a scene or two, and the bulk of the film is behind-the-scenes style footage of the camera crew on their trip to film an update with the homebuyer instead. There’s a fairly minor peppering of mythos and tension throughout, but comedy definitely takes priority for the film. It’s for the best though, as the script calls for some effects that the budget just couldn’t provide—a problem that becomes most apparent in the movie’s hard-to-watch third act. From start to finish They’re Watching is just a mixed bag, and it probably would have worked better as either a short film or part of a horror anthology.
