A 666-Character Review of ‘The Void’

I’ve been keeping an eye out for this film since directors Jeremy Gillespie and Steven Kostanski announced their Indegogo campaign to raise funds for building the practical creature designs. That said, I may have gotten my hopes up a bit too much. While the monsters were certainly impressive, the film itself is a bit of a mess. The first act or so seems like a perfectly normal cult movie with some creature horror thrown in. After that, the film goes wildly off the rails. I definitely didn’t hate the experience, but this is a movie you watch if you’re just kind of in the mood to be grossed out and you don’t really care about plot. Otherwise, the acting is surprisingly decent, the creature stuff was quality (think Splinter but larger and more grotesque), and the cult members are definitely spooky.
