A 666-Character Review of ‘The Voices’

What begins as a delightfully quirky horror comedy takes a dark turn once you realize you’ve been seeing the world through the eyes of a very delusional man. Ryan Reynolds portrays Jerry, your average guy who’s not so good with the ladies and just so happens to communicate regularly with his sarcastic cat, Mr. Whiskers and his supportive dog, Bosco. After a couple of accidental deaths, Jerry finds himself falling down a rabbit hole of poor decisions. The film features plenty of truly disturbing moments, while still peppering in a lot of laugh out loud scenes (in large part thanks to the very persuasive Mr. Whiskers). Reynolds’ performance alone makes this film worth the watch, as he explores the depths of Jerry’s struggle with mental illness and realizes the repercussions of his actions.
