A 666-Character Review Of ‘The Monster’

Equal parts creature feature and dark family drama, Bryan Bertino’s, The Monster, is simple, yet effective. This isn’t the manic, pixie, Zoe Kazan you’re used to. Drug addiction, divorce, abuse, all stacking on the shoulders of her daughter, Lizzy (Ella Ballentine). Then things get worse. An accident leaves this family stranded in the middle of nowhere. When the cause is discovered, a claustrophobic game of cat & mouse begins. While the content is grim, the cinematography is beautiful. Wide, rainy shots of this deserted stretch of road, bordered by thick woods will drop your body temperature on sight alone. This film is proof that sometimes less can be more.

A24 will release The Monster in theaters and On Demand on November 11.

The film is available now exclusively on DirecTV.
